Venice Grand Canal recreated at London Southend Airport

Gondolas, opera singing, pizza and ice cream celebrate the launch of new Italian route  


There are big celebrations at London Southend Airport and the UK’s largest airline, easyJet, as they launch their flights to Venice. The team have recreated the Italian city’s Grand Canal, which includes a gondola, inside the airport terminal.

This new service will take off four days a week, which will be on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday and starts on Friday 8

The flights will cost just £26.49* for one way. which is including taxes.

So, if your thinking about giving your loved one something special this Valentine’s Day, why not visit one of the world’s most romantic cities, which is famous for its picturesque waterways, piazzas and artistic masterpieces.

People who wish to travel onboard the inaugural flight, will be treated to a Venetian themed celebration. With the Grand Canal reconstruction, you can also enjoy performances from the Southend Operatic Society with songs from Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Gondoliers. A delicious Rossi Ice Cream Gondolier will be there to hand out sweet treats and on the Southend Seafront, there will also be a giant easyJet / LSA Pizza from Feelgoods Pizza, Pasta, Play.

There have been over half a million passengers who have flown with easyJet from London Southend airport since the airline’s inaugural flight started last April 2012, making it the fastest growing airport in the region.

EasyJet have just announced the launch of three new routes they have for Summer 2013 which will fly out from London Southend aiport – to Krakow in Poland, Germany’s capital Berlin and Newquay, bringing the total amount of destinations that are served by the airline from the Essex airport to fourteen.

London Southend Airport Managing Director Alastair Welch said “As our first direct service to Italy for some years, the route to Venice gives travellers in Essex and East London the chance to show someone special just how romantic they are!’”
