Les Misérables – Movie Review

The stage musical Les Miserables has been transferred to the big screen twenty seven years after originally opening in the West End.

This movie is based on the french revolution which occurred from 1789-1799, and was produced into a musical which made it to the west end. Last month it came out in cinemas and has been very popular since.

It is Victor Hugo’s story about a prisioner called Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) filled with hatred after being in prison for 20 years with a small offence- stealing a peice of bread to give to his sisters starving child.

Jean breaks his parole and is hunted down by a very determined lawman Javert (Russell Crowe), who thinks that criminals can never become good again after being in prison.

However, Jean does become better and is insipired by a gift of the church siliver from the bishop who he stole from. He becomes a factory owner and then the mayor of a small French town.  He also becomes a father to Cosette (Isabelle Allen) who was the orphaned daughter of Fantine (Anne Hathaway) one of Valjeans’s factory workers.

Chased still by Javert, Valjean heads to Paris, where years later, the now grown up Cosette (Amanda Seyfried) falls in love with a extraordinary student called Marius (Eddie Redmayne) just before he helps with the revolution.

I extremely enjoyed this movie, the story was phenomenal, and the star filled cast was great to watch,if you haven’t seen this movie, i highly recommend that you buy a ticket and see it.
