Great Fun Had By All At The Essex Dog Day

Essex Dog Day held it’s second dog show at Crix, Hatfield Perverel today. Mr and Mrs Twinley provided the beautiful venue and lots of fun was had by everyone.

The sun was shining and dogs from all over the country brought their owners for a good day out! There was plenty to see and do from displays by the Essex Dog Display team, the GSL Dardan Drug Dog Display Team and a display from The Gun Dog school. Even the Ye Olde Redtail Falconry didn’t disappoint!

There were many fun classes to enter, from Puppies (6-12 months), Best Matching Pair Of Dogs, The Most Different Pair Of dogs, Best Resue and a Best 6 Legs class, (to name just a few)

The day was made extra special by a celebrity judge, Mr Peter Purves. You will probably remember Peter as a presenter of the popular children’s television programme Blue Peter for ten and a half years and he looked after the nation’s first surrogate pet, Petra.

Peter Purves, Celebrity Judge

Peter left the Blue Peter show in 1978 and went on the present many other TV shows. He is well known now for his involvement of Crufts Dog Show. Peter said to me, “It’s been a great day. The sun has been shining, the classes have been a lot of fun and this year has seen far more people attend than last year. Couldn’t have asked for a better day.”

Other special guests at the dog show, were Lord Petre who is the holder of the oldest title in Essex and who has been involved in his families 3000 acre estate, and Mr Paul Kelly, managing director of Kelly’s Turkey Farms in Essex. Lord Petre has been the Lord Lieutenant of Essex since 2002 and Paul Kelly is a business mentor to Suffork Farmer and TV personality Jimmy Doherty.

The novalty classes continued in the ‘Scruffts’ arena, with Most Handsome Crossbreed Dog, Prettiest Crossbreed Bitch, Child’s Best Friend and a Golden Oldie class. Each dog entered in these classes were given a pack of James Wellbeloved treats.

There was plenty of good stalls selling everything you could want at a dog show, from collers and accessories, food and treats for your pampered pooch, to food and drinks for the humans!

The day was in aid of raising money for the PARC’s Charity. Last year they exceeded their target of £25,000.

PARC is a registered charity based in Great Notley, near Braintree, Essex. They provide much needed support to families with children with additional needs, such as, speech and lanuage difficulties, autistic spectrum, epilepsy and children with physical and learning difficulties.
